The Hitaji and STEM SURGE Seminar

Board members Rishi Shah, Kailin Kang, Claire Cheng, and Wesley Yang volunteered at the recent Hitaji & STEM SURGE seminar, bringing STEM education to students in Migori County through Hitaji’s outreach initiatives. Staff member Rishi Shah pioneered the planning and coordination of the event, helping launch this impactful partnership. Kailin Kang led the first Introduction to Chemistry lesson, igniting curiosity and excitement among the students. Meanwhile, Claire Cheng and Wesley Yang worked diligently behind the scenes to prepare clear, engaging notes so the children could follow along and retain what they learned. This event marks a meaningful step toward expanding global access to STEM education , and we're just getting started!

STEM SURGE is a non-profit organization led by high school student volunteers, who are committed to making a STEM education more accessible to elementary and middle schoolers.
We teach classes that offer students engaging material and exciting problems, and also run individual tutoring sessions to help students reinforce their learning.
Aside from teaching, we also perform regular outreach at in-person events. Several other exciting projects are also currently in the works, such as an online, individualized math trainer, a curation of interesting riddles, a blog, a YouTube channel, and more!
